Narrative:

Mci tower was very busy with takeoffs on both runway 19 and runway 9. We taxied to runway, called ready, and #1 to go. We heard someone cleared to takeoff runway 9. My copilot read back air carrier xyz, cleared to takeoff. After takeoff tower said company ggx heading 060 degrees contact departure. Copilot read back xyz heading 060 degrees. Tower said we weren't cleared for takeoff, then asked who was #1 for runway 9. Reply was company ggx. It appears ground is not keeping track of ground traffic and needs a better system to not cause tower to have this confusion. Supplemental information from acn 88248: we were cleared to runway 9. At taxiway C-8, I advised tower that air carrier xyz was #1 for runway 9. Tower stated 'air carrier xyz, you're cleared for takeoff.'
