Narrative:
While practicing approaches and landings in a PA-28-180; I got right of the centerline by quite a bit just before touchdown. I used incorrect rudder when I compensated and landed somewhat sideways with the nose wheel pointing even more sideways. The side load collapsed the nose gear and the aircraft slid to a stop on the runway causing damage to the nose gear; cowling; right wing tip; prop spinner and prop. There were no injuries or other property damage.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: Improper control inputs to correct a misalignment with the runway centerline caused the PA28 to land in a crab and the nose gear collapsed as a result. The aircraft was significantly damaged.
