Narrative:

While at cruise altitude the right hand engine made a popping sound followed by abnormal engine gauge indications; which led to an in-flight shutdown. With the interest of safety as my first priority; an emergency was declared; a descent was immediately initiated; and the flight diverted to the first suitable airport. Weather conditions; runway length; ground equipment; crash fire rescue equipment's; etc.; were all taken into consideration in the decision making. The aircraft was landed safely with no further abnormalities to report.
