Narrative:

Flight was released with stl as alternate. Flight was given reroute which burned some fuel; and held about fifty miles southwest of ord. Captain failed to coordinate with me on fuel status but I noticed flight holding on our flight display. I changed his alternate to pia about the same time as I noticed a flight display reroute to ind. I advised flight via ACARS I would be filing this report due to this far violation and bad technique of not calling dispatch while in range of the company frequency and then diverting to an alternate which was not on his release and further than pia from his present position.
