Narrative:

Line maintenance was left to finish the repairs and installation on the right hand aileron of a dhc-8-300. A mechanic was putting together the right hand geared aileron tab. He informed me this morning; which was my first day back from my weekend that he may have placed two washers in position on the outboard; instead of the inboard. I inspected the tab and saw the washers were installed. I was trying to help in getting the aircraft out and doing the inspections on heavy check aircraft at the same time. The washers were repositioned on the aileron geared tab. When a mechanic is involved in a job; he should be allowed to work overtime to complete his job. The mechanic taking his place has to figure out what was done; under pressure; because the aircraft had to make gate without too long of a delay.
