Narrative:

While departing off of runway 34; we had a flight director failure while in icing and IMC conditions. Due to the conditions; I made the turn to heading 295 above 1000 ft; which put us one fourth mile east of the SID according to the tower controller. When the controller notified of this; we were already in the turn towards the 295 degree heading. To help with the correction; I turned to a heading of 285 degrees to get us back on the SID in an expeditious manner. The controller switched us over to departure; without saying we were in any kind of trouble; or giving us a phone number to call. As we switched over to departure; I recycled the flight director and it functioned normally and the flight continued without any further incidents. The main reason that the deviation happened was that my attention was diverted from 'flying' the plane by the failure of the flight director; and my attention to an 'H-stab fail' light that also illuminated as we entered icing conditions.
