Issued nef (non-essential equipment and furnishings) 25-10A flight deck circuit breaker guards damaged or missing. Per nef must be repaired or replaced at the next maintenance overnight visit. Aircraft overnighted at ZZZ and was not repaired before next departure. The maintenance manager removed [the required] time when [deferral] due of zero days.

Title: A Mechanic and Manager report on their involvement with deferring a B737-800 flight deck circuit breaker guard using a Non-Essential Equipment and Furnishing (NEF) deferral procedure. The NEF deferral required the guards must be repaired or replaced at the next overnight visit. They were not; guards were actually missing.
