Narrative:

About 25 minutes after departure we were climbing through FL260 to FL300 at 320 KTS when we had an unscheduled stabilizer trim indication. We immediately cutoff both stab trim switches and leveled off at FL270. ATC was notified and we did the QRH procedure for stabilizer trim failure. We then declared an emergency and returned to ZZZZ. Approach and landing were normal. We did an overweight landing of 350;500 pounds. After a brake inspection and coordinating with ground personnel; we returned to the gate.
