Narrative:

Cleared for the visual approach to runway 25L at lax. At about 2500 ft AGL with autopilot engaged we were 5 miles in trail of a heavy B747-400 aircraft when we encountered wake turbulence. The airplane rolled to the left resulting in one bank angle alert. The captain (pilot flying) disconnected the autopilot and performed the upset recovery procedure. With the bank angle normal I notified approach control of the wake turbulence encounter and were cleared to continue the approach left of the localizer as needed. Switched to tower and landed without further incident.
