Narrative:

Second time in less than a week that I arrived in rdu at night and have been unable to read the gate numbers. The numbers above the jetways are unreadable due to the the glare of the lights from the building illuminating the ramp area. The gate numbers are not lighted. We missed our gate taxiing to it and had to do a 180 further down the alpha taxiway. Many of the jetways are canted at such an angle that pulling in front of the gate number will put you on the wrong gate. Put lighted gate numbers at the end of each jetway (not on the building) so it will be easy to determine where the aircraft should line up.
