Notified flight attendants (cabin advisory) and passengers. Declared emergency with dispatch and ATC; due to higher than normal approach speed. Landing and taxi in was uneventful.

Narrative: During flap extension from position 1 to 5; TE FLAP DISAGREE light illuminated with associated EICAS message. Completed associated QRH procedures. Contacted Dispatch and Maintenance Control. Notified Flight Attendants (cabin advisory) and Passengers. Declared Emergency with Dispatch and ATC; due to higher than normal approach speed.
