Narrative:
Climbing through fl 280; engine 2 compressor stalled. Engine/engine 2 stall and engine/engine 2 overheat ecams appeared and the egt was in red around 700C. We ran the engine surge/stall qrc and the engine recovered at idle. We declared an emergency and diverted to the nearest suitable airport. The approach was flown with engine 2 at idle. The landing was uneventful and the engine was shutdown after clearing the runway.

Title: An A320 flight crew diverted to the nearest suitable airport when the number two engine suffered compressor stalls and overtemped.
Narrative: Climbing through FL 280; Engine 2 compressor stalled. ENG/ENG 2 STALL and ENG/ENG 2 OVERHEAT ECAMS appeared and the EGT was in red around 700C.
