Narrative:

Checked ATIS; knew runway 35 was in use; got to the point where I should have turned; but instead; I flew to runway 27 configured to spot foxtrot; while a fixed-wing was on final. After crossing the runway 1; slowed down to allow the fixed-wing to land and then continued to spot foxtrot. I was asked by ATC if I was a student pilot; and I said yes; and they told me to phone them when I got on the ground. In future I will be cross checking my knee-board for the patterns to be 100% sure where I should approach from.
