Narrative:

During climb out at aprox. 18;000ft; hyd 1 lo qyt message on EICAS followed by hydraulic system 1 fail w/ associated messages. Electric pump fail message; the electric pump cycled on and off twice as observed. Then we declared the emergency with center and diverted. Informed ATC; flight attendant; and pax. Followed checklist for hyd fail and abnormal landing gear extension. Confirmed on the EICAS and rmu that the gear was down and locked. Followed appropriate power settings. Once on the ground we stopped on the runway and shut down the engines; and were towed in by maintenance. Loss of all hydraulic pressure and pumps on system 1.
