Narrative:

On taxi in while under control of signal man with wands and just prior to stopping at gate, left wingtip struck a fuel truck. Outboard, 1-2' of the wing tip involved. Gates on both sides were occupied and at time of contact pilot's attention had to be on signal man and jetway. Wing tips cannot be seen from cockpit. Gate area very tight and very poorly lit. No equipment hold back lines available. Supplemental information from acn 85117: at our airline the maintenance people are in charge once they start the wave in, however after such an incident such as this, you ask yourself why you didn't stop and question the mechanic's judgement.
