Narrative:

We were on the riivr approach to lax 25L in beautiful; crystal clear weather. Had runway in sight 30 miles out. Socal cleared us for the visual about 20 miles from the airport and advised us that there was traffic on the north complex. As we got closer; somewhere inside fuelr; socal called out a 747 on right base for 24R. We easily saw the 747 at our 1 o'clock and about 2-3 miles ahead of us. However; he way overshot the north complex and even overshot the airport by about 2 miles. He rolled out facing the manhattan beach pier. ATC was concerned about separation; we told him we would slow to final approach speed and and he cleared us to s-turn to the left if needed. The 747 continued his turn back to the north complex thru the south complex traffic and was never a threat to us since we slowed. We continued and landed safely on 25L. Perhaps socal and norcal should not issue visual approaches to new or start-up foreign carriers who may employ less experienced pilots or pilots who do not have operating experience in lax and sfo.
