Narrative:
Descending through 13000; jackson approach issued clearance to jan vor and descent to 6000. Upon reaching 6000; TCAS indicating a target 2 mi ahead at same altitude. Approach issued immediate left turn to heading 180 and stated altitude clearance was to 7000. TCAS TA nor RA were received; traffic remained 2 mi away. Approach issued further descent to 3000. Flight landed uneventful. Numerous flights on freq. With jackson approach. I misheard the clearance and/or jackson approach misheard the read back.
