Narrative:

St. Thomas (stt) recently started to use gate 3 for air carrier arrivals. This requires very close maneuvering of the aircraft next to the terminal building; ground support and power equipment. There are no yellow lines (other than the straight parking line) to assist with obstacle clearance when entering the parking area or painted areas to indicate where the ground equipment should be parked for obstacle clearance. On different flights the guide man stands different distances from the terminal building and always causes crew consternation and worry about hitting the terminal building stairs or ground support equipment with a wing or the tail.
