Narrative:

While climbing out we were informed by ATC to contact our company for a message. Leaving 10;000 ft; I called operations as we simultaneously received an ACARS message from dispatch. Both informed us that the ramp crew had failed to notify us of 10 additional gate checked bags in forward cargo compartment. Even though we had departed at 4;700 pounds under our planned ZFW (per the release); I asked dispatch to run the numbers with the additional bags and send these to us via ACARS. Our dispatcher sent us the information; and all weights were well within limits for all regimes.
