Narrative:

Upon arrival at the gate on the first flight of the day the captain and I were advised of an issue with the interior hinge cover of the forward entry door. It appeared that the interior cover was not staying closed very well; but it did not appear to be detrimental to the integrity of the door. I continued my duties and the captain continued his and we decided to have it looked at at our first stop. Upon maintenance inspection it was determined that the issue could not be immediately repaired and that it could not be MEL'ed. This resulted in an aircraft swap. Our error was that we did not communicate the seemingly mundane discrepancy to maintenance prior to our departing.
