Narrative:

Approximately 45 minutes prior to landing in ZZZ; 2 flight attendants working in first class talking to (what we thought was a regular passenger) turns out to be an fam. This is hours into the flight. First flight attendant called flight deck for verification. Flight deck was also unaware fams on board.

Title: An air carrier Flight Attendant reported becoming aware of the presence of a Federal Air Marshal four hours into a transcontinental flight. The flight crew was also unaware of the Marshal's presence.

Narrative: Approximately 45 minutes prior to landing in ZZZ; 2 flight attendants working in first class talking to (what we thought was a regular passenger) turns out to be an FAM.
