Narrative:

We were operating flight with the #2 pack deferred; level at FL300; when a level 2 ECAM was displayed: 'air pack 1+2 fault and fault light on pack 1 switch in overhead panel.' we donned oxygen masks and established communication. Prior to ECAM action; we checked MEA and requested 10;000 ft with center as directed on ECAM actions. Center issued descent clearances to 10;000 ft. Captain instructed to hold off in accomplishing ECAM action; monitor the pressurization during the descent. Threat assessment of pressurization system did not require an emergency descent or continued use of oxygen mask but captain did accomplish an expedited descent. Captain established communication with dispatch and maintenance control. When we confirmed to center we were diverting to ZZZ; we were given ZZZ. Cabin pressure was holding but pack #1 outlet temperature was slowly increasing. Descending through approximately 15;000 ft; #1 pack outlet temperature reached 230 degrees C (amber) and a level 1 pack #1 overheat was displayed. When overheat was reached; captain directed to accomplish ECAM action. First step in ECAM action; turning pack #1 off immediately cleared overheat and pack temperature dropped rapidly. Cabin altitude was approximately 4;500 ft and climbing 700-800 FPM with pack #1 off. Captain communicated with purser and passengers of our divert. Last line of ECAM action had 'when pack overheat out; pack (affected) on.' pack #1 was placed on; pressurization remained normal to touchdown. Accomplished overweight landing checklist. Landing weight data also obtained through ACARS after captain contacted dispatch with estimated landing weight. NOTAMS reviewed and the ILS briefed. On final; we advised tower unable right turnoff at taxiway T. Smooth landing at approximately 145;000 pounds. Less than 100 FPM observed on vsi. Full flaps used. Weather was VFR. Emergency was not declared. Excellent handling by ATC.

Title: A319 flight crew operating at FL300 with PACK 2 deferred receives ECAM AIRPACK 1+2 FAULT. Crew receives clearance for descent and complies with ECAM procedures which eventually restore PACK 1 operation. Cabin remains below 10000 FT but crew elects to divert for over weight landing.
