Narrative:

Air carrier #120 was following crj on a visual approach to runway 10L at pdx. Traffic was issued on a primary target; 'traffic 12 o'clock position; 4 miles opposite direction; primary target last reported by crj about 5500 ft.' air carrier X said he was looking for traffic and not in sight. Then the pilot said he had to turn to avoid the traffic. The pilot was shaken up and called the TRACON after landing and told the supervisor that he had to turn 45 degrees to avoid traffic that was 100 ft away.' 'the traffic call saved my butt' was what he told the supervisor. We tried tracking the target but lost him behind the west hills below radar coverage. Class B airspace is needed and overdue at pdx.
