Narrative:

We were a 2 ship of fgt X flying a published military training low level route, vr 1642. We were striving to maintain 500' AGL and 420 KTS ground speed. These routes are scheduled in advance. Flight service is notified and we talked with terre haute FSS prior to entering the route to advise them. They told me later that they publish NOTAMS about the training activities and also transmit on all VOR's when the route is activated. The back seater was doing the navigation so my attention was completely outside the aircraft. We were both looking to the right side of the aircraft to see our course reference to the town of monon, in. When I looked to the left I saw copter Y slightly below us at 10 O'clock. He was heading east, we were 043 degrees. There was no time to take evasive action. The only reason we missed was because we weren't on a collision course. My wingman saw him at the same time we did. He said the helicopter was still flying after we passed so our jetwash didn't hurt him. We missed by 20-30'. I thank god that I'm still here to report this! An air force form 651 has also been filed.
