On approach at 210 KTS; flaps 1 degree was called for. ECAM alert and message indicated 'flight control slats locked.' pilot not flying worked ECAM; pilot flying flew and talked on radio. When flaps 2 degrees was selected; another ECAM indicated 'flight control direct law.' worked that ECAM; landed flaps 3 degrees with speed of 'reference + 25 KTS' as directed on runway 26; uneventfully. On touchdown; 'direct law' reverted to 'alternate law' according to ECAM. Maintenance working problems; dispatch notified.

Title: An A319 ECAM alerted F/CTL SLATS LOCKED while descending for landing. During the ECAM procedure when flaps 2 were selected the ECAM F/CTL DIRECT LAW alerted. Transition to Direct Law was an automation failure.
