Narrative:

Rejected takeoff between 105-110 KTS (V1 was 113) due to a loud bang; vibration; and flash from the #1 engine. We taxied clear of the runway and ran the appropriate checklists. We declared an emergency and had the emergency crews visually check the aircraft. Brake temperatures were checked with the quick reference handbook and found to be well within limits. We had maintenance tow us into the gate due to our uncertainly of exactly what was wrong with the aircraft. Once at the gate the passengers deplaned and we gave the aircraft to maintenance.
