Narrative:
After reaching cruise; flight attendants advised flight crew they inadvertently discovered there were fams on board. A breakdown in communication caused flight to depart without any working crew member aware that fams were on board the aircraft. The new boarding procedure leaves a lot of room for error. We should consider returning to the previous procedure of having a lead fam make contact with the captain.
