Narrative:

I just called in fatigued for my trip tomorrow morning. I have had a few days off (3 days; my longest stretch of days off in a month) and have not slept much or well recently. My 5 year old is sick and my spouse is out of town so I have been up with her every night. I came home from my last trip late the night before last. I would have to get up tomorrow morning at XA45 to make my trip. I do not feel well rested at this time nor do I anticipate feeling well rested at XA45 tomorrow morning. However; I believe that this fatigue is not simply from the past few days; but cumulative over the last month. Before these 3 days off; I had worked 19 of the past 24 days. My longest stretch of days off had been 2. A schedule like this is not sustainable; nor safe. I can't imagine that I am the only one that comes home and has to pay bills; do laundry; cook meals; and -- the most important (and time consuming) -- take care of family. I hope that it won't take a smoking hole in the ground for someone to realize how fatiguing and unsafe these schedules are.
