Narrative:

We started out at XA50 am -- XB59 departure first flight of the day. Aircraft was preflted; logbook reviewed and all other duties performed. We departed ZZZ for ZZZ1 fuel 4400 pounds and 13 passenger. On a 2 hour flight; WX was forecast to be good however; at our time of arrival (on schedule) WX was down to minimums for lda approach. On the lda 6 approach into ZZZ1 we configured the aircraft and when we put the gear down we got 2 green confirmations for the mains but a red indication on the nose. No yellow lights. No landing inoperative lights; hydraulic all good. We discontinued the approach; went missed; followed pma and told tower we had a gear malfunction; roll the equipment and needed to go around and run a checklist. (The day before this aircraft had a bad shimmy on the nosewheel and was replaced.) we opened the floor door to check the lights; position; indication of the gear and the same; 2 green and no nose light. We ran through the checklists and called maintenance in ZZZ1 through ZZZ1 operations and we were told per maintenance to recycle the gear. We did that and waited about a min and then put the gear down and we were thankful we got all 3 green lights. Great. We confirmed the all green again with the lights on the floor. Great. We told tower we were ready to come back in. We got the problem worked out. He says ok. At this point I'm looking at my fuel and were not low but unduly delayed; we might be. And if we had to go missed on the approach; we would be really low. I ask him what our number to the airport is and he said '5!' I said; we; I'm not declaring anything yet but I'm getting low and close to my reserve fuel. He pushed us up in line about #3 and we were on the ground in about 5 mins. I also asked him if anyone had gone missed recently because the WX was right at minimums and he said no! Trucks were there; we landed; normal landing; taxied to gate. Passenger were happy to be on the ground safely and no complaints from anyone! It's hard to try to prevent the reoccurrence of what we think may have been jammed or stuck nosewheel possible from the service performed the night before. But these are a few suggestions. Always take more fuel than just minimum required. WX as we all know can go from good to really bad in a very short time and stay that way for a long time because its location. We had enough fuel for the trip but adding any delays (vip arrival that afternoon) or any malfunction; WX dropping; missed approach; it seems there's little room for any additional add-ONS. It makes you feel a little better having fuel onboard; unless the unlikely event of a fire would be the case! I would also like to add that the emergency -- abnormal checklist we have should be a little bit clrer and should include a checklist for mains' green and nose red with no yellow indication and -- or no hydraulic problems; indications or quantity.

Title: A DASH 8'S NOSE LANDING GEAR FAILED TO EXTEND. ALL GEAR EXTENDED AFTER THEY WERE RECYCLED ONCE.

Narrative: WE STARTED OUT AT XA50 AM -- XB59 DEP FIRST FLT OF THE DAY. ACFT WAS PREFLTED; LOGBOOK REVIEWED AND ALL OTHER DUTIES PERFORMED. WE DEPARTED ZZZ FOR ZZZ1 FUEL 4400 LBS AND 13 PAX. ON A 2 HR FLT; WX WAS FORECAST TO BE GOOD HOWEVER; AT OUR TIME OF ARR (ON SCHEDULE) WX WAS DOWN TO MINIMUMS FOR LDA APCH. ON THE LDA 6 APCH INTO ZZZ1 WE CONFIGURED THE ACFT AND WHEN WE PUT THE GEAR DOWN WE GOT 2 GREEN CONFIRMATIONS FOR THE MAINS BUT A RED INDICATION ON THE NOSE. NO YELLOW LIGHTS. NO LNDG INOP LIGHTS; HYD ALL GOOD. WE DISCONTINUED THE APCH; WENT MISSED; FOLLOWED PMA AND TOLD TWR WE HAD A GEAR MALFUNCTION; ROLL THE EQUIP AND NEEDED TO GO AROUND AND RUN A CHKLIST. (THE DAY BEFORE THIS ACFT HAD A BAD SHIMMY ON THE NOSEWHEEL AND WAS REPLACED.) WE OPENED THE FLOOR DOOR TO CHK THE LIGHTS; POS; INDICATION OF THE GEAR AND THE SAME; 2 GREEN AND NO NOSE LIGHT. WE RAN THROUGH THE CHKLISTS AND CALLED MAINT IN ZZZ1 THROUGH ZZZ1 OPS AND WE WERE TOLD PER MAINT TO RECYCLE THE GEAR. WE DID THAT AND WAITED ABOUT A MIN AND THEN PUT THE GEAR DOWN AND WE WERE THANKFUL WE GOT ALL 3 GREEN LIGHTS. GREAT. WE CONFIRMED THE ALL GREEN AGAIN WITH THE LIGHTS ON THE FLOOR. GREAT. WE TOLD TWR WE WERE READY TO COME BACK IN. WE GOT THE PROB WORKED OUT. HE SAYS OK. AT THIS POINT I'M LOOKING AT MY FUEL AND WERE NOT LOW BUT UNDULY DELAYED; WE MIGHT BE. AND IF WE HAD TO GO MISSED ON THE APCH; WE WOULD BE REALLY LOW. I ASK HIM WHAT OUR NUMBER TO THE ARPT IS AND HE SAID '5!' I SAID; WE; I'M NOT DECLARING ANYTHING YET BUT I'M GETTING LOW AND CLOSE TO MY RESERVE FUEL. HE PUSHED US UP IN LINE ABOUT #3 AND WE WERE ON THE GND IN ABOUT 5 MINS. I ALSO ASKED HIM IF ANYONE HAD GONE MISSED RECENTLY BECAUSE THE WX WAS RIGHT AT MINIMUMS AND HE SAID NO! TRUCKS WERE THERE; WE LANDED; NORMAL LNDG; TAXIED TO GATE. PAX WERE HAPPY TO BE ON THE GND SAFELY AND NO COMPLAINTS FROM ANYONE! IT'S HARD TO TRY TO PREVENT THE REOCCURRENCE OF WHAT WE THINK MAY HAVE BEEN JAMMED OR STUCK NOSEWHEEL POSSIBLE FROM THE SVC PERFORMED THE NIGHT BEFORE. WE HAD ENOUGH FUEL FOR THE TRIP BUT ADDING ANY DELAYS (VIP ARR THAT AFTERNOON) OR ANY MALFUNCTION; WX DROPPING; MISSED APCH; IT SEEMS THERE'S LITTLE ROOM FOR ANY ADDITIONAL ADD-ONS. IT MAKES YOU FEEL A LITTLE BETTER HAVING FUEL ONBOARD; UNLESS THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF A FIRE WOULD BE THE CASE! I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD THAT THE EMER -- ABNORMAL CHKLIST WE HAVE SHOULD BE A LITTLE BIT CLRER AND SHOULD INCLUDE A CHKLIST FOR MAINS' GREEN AND NOSE RED WITH NO YELLOW INDICATION AND -- OR NO HYD PROBS; INDICATIONS OR QUANTITY.
