Narrative:

It was night and the dash 8 landed on runway xx in ZZZZ. During the landing rollout; the tower told us to 'exit at BRAVO2; cross runway 28 and on foxtrot contact apron control.' as the airplane was exiting the runway at BRAVO2; the tower changed our taxi instructions to 'hold short of taxiway bravo on BRAVO2 and contact ground control.' taxiing on BRAVO2; I looked on either side of the taxiway for a bravo intersection sign or another marking to help me identify the intersection of the 2 txwys. I realized there are no signs -- markings; so I used the blue taxiway edge lights to help me identify bravo. I stopped; holding short of taxiway B with the entire airplane inside the taxiway B taxi lights. While holding short of taxiway B; ground control cleared an MD11; that had just left the gate area; to taxi to xx via 'cross runway yy at BRAVO2 and turn right on bravo.' as the MD11 crossed runway yy; facing the dash-8 head on; it became apparent to us that it may not be able to clear our airplane. The first officer; over the radio; asked the MD11 crew if they would have enough room. The MD11 crew did not respond and continued coming towards us. They began the right turn from BRAVO2 onto taxiway B and then I told the MD11 crew to 'stop;' and they discontinued the turn. Both airplanes were within close proximity to one another; that they could not move. We explained to the ground controller what had happened and the controller told us to use reverse power to move the airplane backwards. I said we do not have a procedure that allows us to use reverse to move the aircraft. The MD11 crew asked for assistance from 'wing walkers.' when the 'wing walkers' arrived; they evaled the situation and gave me hand signals to turn the airplane to the right and I followed their instructions. I stopped turning when it appeared to me that the aircraft's right tire was getting too close to the edge of the taxiway. I signaled back that I was not turning any further and that a tug would come and push the airplane backward. All this time the first officer was also communicating with operations; who had offered their assistance with towing the airplane. The tug arrived and pushed the aircraft back (both engines shut down and APU on) and the MD11 continued on its way and we continued to taxi to the gate. The passenger deplaned and they were in good spirits and did not complain of the delay. Once it was idented that there was not enough room for the MD11 to turn; I told the MD11 crew to 'stop.' this event occurred due to: a lack of a taxiway B intersection sign on taxiway BRAVO2; the last minute change to our taxi instructions; not aware that an MD11; on the other side of the field; would be turning in front of us; ground controller not telling us what type of airplane we were holding short of taxiway B for; poor planning of ground controller; who could have let us cross runway 28 before the MD11 even began their taxi; and crew not responding or taking action when the first officer's asked if they would have enough room to make the turn. At any airport that I fly to; I will always stop well short of a taxiway intersection and or txwys intersection hold signs - lights to ensure that any type of airplane that turns in front of my airplane has plenty of room to pass.

Title: ARRIVING DASH 8 FLT CREW REPORTS CONFLICT WITH DEPARTING MD11 AT INTERSECTION OF TXWYS.

Narrative: IT WAS NIGHT AND THE DASH 8 LANDED ON RWY XX IN ZZZZ. DURING THE LNDG ROLLOUT; THE TWR TOLD US TO 'EXIT AT BRAVO2; CROSS RWY 28 AND ON FOXTROT CONTACT APRON CTL.' AS THE AIRPLANE WAS EXITING THE RWY AT BRAVO2; THE TWR CHANGED OUR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO 'HOLD SHORT OF TXWY BRAVO ON BRAVO2 AND CONTACT GND CTL.' TAXIING ON BRAVO2; I LOOKED ON EITHER SIDE OF THE TXWY FOR A BRAVO INTXN SIGN OR ANOTHER MARKING TO HELP ME IDENT THE INTXN OF THE 2 TXWYS. I REALIZED THERE ARE NO SIGNS -- MARKINGS; SO I USED THE BLUE TXWY EDGE LIGHTS TO HELP ME IDENT BRAVO. I STOPPED; HOLDING SHORT OF TXWY B WITH THE ENTIRE AIRPLANE INSIDE THE TXWY B TAXI LIGHTS. WHILE HOLDING SHORT OF TXWY B; GND CTL CLRED AN MD11; THAT HAD JUST LEFT THE GATE AREA; TO TAXI TO XX VIA 'CROSS RWY YY AT BRAVO2 AND TURN R ON BRAVO.' AS THE MD11 CROSSED RWY YY; FACING THE DASH-8 HEAD ON; IT BECAME APPARENT TO US THAT IT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CLR OUR AIRPLANE. THE FO; OVER THE RADIO; ASKED THE MD11 CREW IF THEY WOULD HAVE ENOUGH ROOM. THE MD11 CREW DID NOT RESPOND AND CONTINUED COMING TOWARDS US. THEY BEGAN THE R TURN FROM BRAVO2 ONTO TXWY B AND THEN I TOLD THE MD11 CREW TO 'STOP;' AND THEY DISCONTINUED THE TURN. BOTH AIRPLANES WERE WITHIN CLOSE PROX TO ONE ANOTHER; THAT THEY COULD NOT MOVE. WE EXPLAINED TO THE GND CTLR WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THE CTLR TOLD US TO USE REVERSE PWR TO MOVE THE AIRPLANE BACKWARDS. I SAID WE DO NOT HAVE A PROC THAT ALLOWS US TO USE REVERSE TO MOVE THE ACFT. THE MD11 CREW ASKED FOR ASSISTANCE FROM 'WING WALKERS.' WHEN THE 'WING WALKERS' ARRIVED; THEY EVALED THE SITUATION AND GAVE ME HAND SIGNALS TO TURN THE AIRPLANE TO THE R AND I FOLLOWED THEIR INSTRUCTIONS. I STOPPED TURNING WHEN IT APPEARED TO ME THAT THE ACFT'S R TIRE WAS GETTING TOO CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF THE TXWY. I SIGNALED BACK THAT I WAS NOT TURNING ANY FURTHER AND THAT A TUG WOULD COME AND PUSH THE AIRPLANE BACKWARD. ALL THIS TIME THE FO WAS ALSO COMMUNICATING WITH OPS; WHO HAD OFFERED THEIR ASSISTANCE WITH TOWING THE AIRPLANE. THE TUG ARRIVED AND PUSHED THE ACFT BACK (BOTH ENGS SHUT DOWN AND APU ON) AND THE MD11 CONTINUED ON ITS WAY AND WE CONTINUED TO TAXI TO THE GATE. THE PAX DEPLANED AND THEY WERE IN GOOD SPIRITS AND DID NOT COMPLAIN OF THE DELAY. ONCE IT WAS IDENTED THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE MD11 TO TURN; I TOLD THE MD11 CREW TO 'STOP.' THIS EVENT OCCURRED DUE TO: A LACK OF A TXWY B INTXN SIGN ON TXWY BRAVO2; THE LAST MINUTE CHANGE TO OUR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS; NOT AWARE THAT AN MD11; ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD; WOULD BE TURNING IN FRONT OF US; GND CTLR NOT TELLING US WHAT TYPE OF AIRPLANE WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF TXWY B FOR; POOR PLANNING OF GND CTLR; WHO COULD HAVE LET US CROSS RWY 28 BEFORE THE MD11 EVEN BEGAN THEIR TAXI; AND CREW NOT RESPONDING OR TAKING ACTION WHEN THE FO'S ASKED IF THEY WOULD HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO MAKE THE TURN. AT ANY ARPT THAT I FLY TO; I WILL ALWAYS STOP WELL SHORT OF A TXWY INTXN AND OR TXWYS INTXN HOLD SIGNS - LIGHTS TO ENSURE THAT ANY TYPE OF AIRPLANE THAT TURNS IN FRONT OF MY AIRPLANE HAS PLENTY OF ROOM TO PASS.
