Narrative:

Pbi airport. I landed on taxiway left instead of runway 9R. I was single pilot VFR cleared to land on runway 9L; monitoring the ILS; when due to an airport emergency was sidestepped to runway 9R. At pbi; runway 9R is much shorter and narrowed than taxiway left due to large jets having to use the taxiway. This gives the appearance of the taxiway being the runway. According to the tower there have been more than 45 incidents of this on taxiway left for aircraft cleared to land on runway 9R/27L. I believe the combination of single pilot cockpit; early morning sun; last min change of runway; and poorly marked runway are all contributing factors. I especially believe the runway needs an approach extension with yellow chevrons. This is no excuse; however; and in the future I will familiarize myself more with the airport diagram of intended landing and possibly refuse a sidestep to another runway at the last min and ask to go around.

Title: PA23 PLT LANDS ON TAXIWAY 'L' AT PBI RATHER THAN THE PARALLEL RWY 9R. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS STATED INCLUDE; RWY WIDTH AND MARKINGS.

Narrative: PBI ARPT. I LANDED ON TXWY L INSTEAD OF RWY 9R. I WAS SINGLE PLT VFR CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 9L; MONITORING THE ILS; WHEN DUE TO AN ARPT EMER WAS SIDESTEPPED TO RWY 9R. AT PBI; RWY 9R IS MUCH SHORTER AND NARROWED THAN TXWY L DUE TO LARGE JETS HAVING TO USE THE TXWY. THIS GIVES THE APPEARANCE OF THE TXWY BEING THE RWY. ACCORDING TO THE TWR THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN 45 INCIDENTS OF THIS ON TXWY L FOR ACFT CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 9R/27L. I BELIEVE THE COMBINATION OF SINGLE PLT COCKPIT; EARLY MORNING SUN; LAST MIN CHANGE OF RWY; AND POORLY MARKED RWY ARE ALL CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. I ESPECIALLY BELIEVE THE RWY NEEDS AN APCH EXTENSION WITH YELLOW CHEVRONS. THIS IS NO EXCUSE; HOWEVER; AND IN THE FUTURE I WILL FAMILIARIZE MYSELF MORE WITH THE ARPT DIAGRAM OF INTENDED LNDG AND POSSIBLY REFUSE A SIDESTEP TO ANOTHER RWY AT THE LAST MIN AND ASK TO GO AROUND.
