Narrative:

On climb out; captain was hand flying and reported feeling a rumbling through the flight controls. At FL300 the left generator drive EICAS light came on with the light in the overhead switch. Ran checklist and disconnected the generator drive. Large bump was felt at point of disconnect and rumbling feeling went away. Diverted to nearest suitable at that time which was ZZZ. Captain used emergency authority/authorized for slight overweight landing (1900 pounds) and declared an emergency with no assistance required. Uneventful landing and taxi in. Cabin and flight deck crew debriefed after deplaning.

Title: B757-200 DIVERTS TO NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT AFTER DISCONNECTING A VIBRATING GENERATOR DRIVE WHICH RESULTED IN A LARGE 'BUMP.'

Narrative: ON CLBOUT; CAPT WAS HAND FLYING AND RPTED FEELING A RUMBLING THROUGH THE FLT CTLS. AT FL300 THE L GENERATOR DRIVE EICAS LIGHT CAME ON WITH THE LIGHT IN THE OVERHEAD SWITCH. RAN CHKLIST AND DISCONNECTED THE GENERATOR DRIVE. LARGE BUMP WAS FELT AT POINT OF DISCONNECT AND RUMBLING FEELING WENT AWAY. DIVERTED TO NEAREST SUITABLE AT THAT TIME WHICH WAS ZZZ. CAPT USED EMER AUTH FOR SLIGHT OVERWT LNDG (1900 LBS) AND DECLARED AN EMER WITH NO ASSISTANCE REQUIRED. UNEVENTFUL LNDG AND TAXI IN. CABIN AND FLT DECK CREW DEBRIEFED AFTER DEPLANING.
