Narrative:

We were cleared to deviate around WX on the arrival. We were going between 2 cells. The captain checked off to situation the flight attendants down for the WX. ZLA then asked me to turn left; which would have put us into the WX. Then they wanted me to turn to the right and back around the other way. This would have put us into another cell. Center then informed us that we were entering restr airspace. Center then said that they will treat us as an emergency and to squawk 7700. Once we were clear of the WX; we exited restr airspace and center then told us to return to our original squawk. It would have been good to know about the restr airspace either via center or an overlay option available on our mfd. If we saw how we were going to get boxed in; maybe we could have stayed higher and gone over the WX.

Title: ZLA CTLR DECLARED EMER FOR B737-700 ENTERING RESTRICTED AREA BECAUSE OF REQUIRED WX DIVERSIONS AND INABILITY TO TURN AS REQUESTED.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO DEVIATE AROUND WX ON THE ARR. WE WERE GOING BTWN 2 CELLS. THE CAPT CHKED OFF TO SIT THE FLT ATTENDANTS DOWN FOR THE WX. ZLA THEN ASKED ME TO TURN L; WHICH WOULD HAVE PUT US INTO THE WX. THEN THEY WANTED ME TO TURN TO THE R AND BACK AROUND THE OTHER WAY. THIS WOULD HAVE PUT US INTO ANOTHER CELL. CTR THEN INFORMED US THAT WE WERE ENTERING RESTR AIRSPACE. CTR THEN SAID THAT THEY WILL TREAT US AS AN EMER AND TO SQUAWK 7700. ONCE WE WERE CLR OF THE WX; WE EXITED RESTR AIRSPACE AND CTR THEN TOLD US TO RETURN TO OUR ORIGINAL SQUAWK. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT THE RESTR AIRSPACE EITHER VIA CTR OR AN OVERLAY OPTION AVAILABLE ON OUR MFD. IF WE SAW HOW WE WERE GOING TO GET BOXED IN; MAYBE WE COULD HAVE STAYED HIGHER AND GONE OVER THE WX.
