Narrative:

We had an aircraft assigned to us to fly this leg and the aircraft taken away and another aircraft was assigned to our flight. This new aircraft was being shopped around to see who would fly it with its deferred items. We found the crew that had gotten our aircraft and asked them why they had gotten our aircraft and they told us that they had verbally refused the aircraft with maintenance. There was no entry made in the logbook about a refusal; so when we refused the aircraft given to us; we were the first to officially refuse the aircraft. I believe that maybe maintenance is fatigued or maybe he chose to not make the refusal entry; but in either event our manual states that a refusal must be entered in the log history.

Title: A320 FLT CREW DESCRIBES 'ACFT SHOPPING' INCIDENT AND LACK OF PREVIOUS CREW'S ACFT REFUSAL DOCUMENTED IN ACFT LOGBOOK.

Narrative: WE HAD AN ACFT ASSIGNED TO US TO FLY THIS LEG AND THE ACFT TAKEN AWAY AND ANOTHER ACFT WAS ASSIGNED TO OUR FLT. THIS NEW ACFT WAS BEING SHOPPED AROUND TO SEE WHO WOULD FLY IT WITH ITS DEFERRED ITEMS. WE FOUND THE CREW THAT HAD GOTTEN OUR ACFT AND ASKED THEM WHY THEY HAD GOTTEN OUR ACFT AND THEY TOLD US THAT THEY HAD VERBALLY REFUSED THE ACFT WITH MAINT. THERE WAS NO ENTRY MADE IN THE LOGBOOK ABOUT A REFUSAL; SO WHEN WE REFUSED THE ACFT GIVEN TO US; WE WERE THE FIRST TO OFFICIALLY REFUSE THE ACFT. I BELIEVE THAT MAYBE MAINT IS FATIGUED OR MAYBE HE CHOSE TO NOT MAKE THE REFUSAL ENTRY; BUT IN EITHER EVENT OUR MANUAL STATES THAT A REFUSAL MUST BE ENTERED IN THE LOG HISTORY.
