Narrative:

The preflight preparations for our flight from clt to ZZZ were performed without haste or any unusual distrs. During the approximately 50 min turn; all checklists were completed carefully and unrushed; yet the revised segment portion of the pre departure clearance went unnoticed. My technique to confirm a review of the revised segment is to point to the pre departure clearance when the first officer challenges 'FMC and radios.' I respond; 'programmed; set and verified.' the verified part is when I make sure we have a pre departure clearance; the transponder code is correct and I check the revised segment. Well; we did have a pre departure clearance; our transponder was set correctly; and I did give the correct response while pointing to the pre departure clearance. Unfortunately; the revised segment showed the jacal 2 RNAV departure and I had programmed the hornet 3 into the FMC. The error was not discovered until the departure control asked us which departure we were flying since we missed the turn to the north required by the jacal departure. The controller then vectored us to the first fix without further incident.

Title: A B737-300 FLIGHT CREW DEVIATED FROM THE PDC-ASSIGNED SID WHEN THE CAPTAIN LOADED THE WRONG DEPARTURE DURING PREFLIGHT.

Narrative: THE PREFLT PREPARATIONS FOR OUR FLT FROM CLT TO ZZZ WERE PERFORMED WITHOUT HASTE OR ANY UNUSUAL DISTRS. DURING THE APPROX 50 MIN TURN; ALL CHKLISTS WERE COMPLETED CAREFULLY AND UNRUSHED; YET THE REVISED SEGMENT PORTION OF THE PDC WENT UNNOTICED. MY TECHNIQUE TO CONFIRM A REVIEW OF THE REVISED SEGMENT IS TO POINT TO THE PDC WHEN THE FO CHALLENGES 'FMC AND RADIOS.' I RESPOND; 'PROGRAMMED; SET AND VERIFIED.' THE VERIFIED PART IS WHEN I MAKE SURE WE HAVE A PDC; THE XPONDER CODE IS CORRECT AND I CHK THE REVISED SEGMENT. WELL; WE DID HAVE A PDC; OUR XPONDER WAS SET CORRECTLY; AND I DID GIVE THE CORRECT RESPONSE WHILE POINTING TO THE PDC. UNFORTUNATELY; THE REVISED SEGMENT SHOWED THE JACAL 2 RNAV DEP AND I HAD PROGRAMMED THE HORNET 3 INTO THE FMC. THE ERROR WAS NOT DISCOVERED UNTIL THE DEP CTL ASKED US WHICH DEP WE WERE FLYING SINCE WE MISSED THE TURN TO THE N REQUIRED BY THE JACAL DEP. THE CTLR THEN VECTORED US TO THE FIRST FIX WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
