Narrative:

During a walkaround inspection of aircraft X; revealed a static burn on the #2 engine outboard thrust reverser translating sleeve. This damage did not fit the criteria in the -800 srm (no provisions). The damage did not appear to be recent and there was no other indications of any other damage on the aircraft surfaces. As a result; the deferred item project reinspection criteria was misinterped -- clarification still pending a meeting with management discussing the requirements with this type of damage. Individual factors: flight schedule; ground time limited.
