Narrative:

On takeoff roll; at approximately 90 KIAS; we heard a loud bang accompanied by high egt; then engine rollback; then aircraft yaw. I aborted on the runway. An emergency was declared. Various other aircraft reported smoke and sparks were coming from left engine exhaust; but no fire indications. After aircraft was stopped on runway; we called for an inspection by emergency vehicles; and accomplished QRH checklist. Passenger were told to remain seated. After inspection by fire officials; we taxied back to the gate; and passenger were deplaned. Following incident small pieces of metal were found in the engine tailpipe area.

Title: A B767-300 ENG FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY ON TKOF ROLL AT 90 KTS. THE TKOF WAS REJECTED; AN EMER DECLARED AND THE ACFT RETURNED TO THE GATE.

Narrative: ON TKOF ROLL; AT APPROX 90 KIAS; WE HEARD A LOUD BANG ACCOMPANIED BY HIGH EGT; THEN ENG ROLLBACK; THEN ACFT YAW. I ABORTED ON THE RWY. AN EMER WAS DECLARED. VARIOUS OTHER ACFT RPTED SMOKE AND SPARKS WERE COMING FROM L ENG EXHAUST; BUT NO FIRE INDICATIONS. AFTER ACFT WAS STOPPED ON RWY; WE CALLED FOR AN INSPECTION BY EMER VEHICLES; AND ACCOMPLISHED QRH CHKLIST. PAX WERE TOLD TO REMAIN SEATED. AFTER INSPECTION BY FIRE OFFICIALS; WE TAXIED BACK TO THE GATE; AND PAX WERE DEPLANED. FOLLOWING INCIDENT SMALL PIECES OF METAL WERE FOUND IN THE ENG TAILPIPE AREA.
