Narrative:

On aug/xa/08 my first officer and I received an aircraft that had a maintenance issue. After the aircraft couldn't be fixed we were given a new aircraft about 5 mins before our scheduled departure. We both immediately got in to the cockpit and began the setup process; getting the clearance; etc. The gate agent quickly boarded the aircraft and gave us the paperwork. The first officer then completed the weight and balance and the paperwork was then handed to the gate agent and the main cabin door was closed. We then proceeded with the setup check and then realized after running the checklist that the walkaround was not completed and the gear pins were still installed in the aircraft; it was the first flight of the day for that aircraft. We called for the gate agent to come back and pull the jetbridge to the aircraft so the walkaround could be completed and gear pins removed. Make sure the setup check is accomplished prior to closing the main cabin door. Supplemental information from acn 799372: I would recommend that everyone relax and take your time in setting up the aircraft and make sure that you complete all preflight duties. The necessity for checklists proved itself in this situation; and resulted in us not taking off with the pins installed.

Title: AN ACR FLT CREW PREPARED AN ACFT FOR DEP WITHOUT AN EXTERNAL PREFLT AFTER A RUSHED ACFT SWAP. FLT CREW MISSED THE FACT THAT THIS ACFT HAD NOT FLOWN THAT DAY.

Narrative: ON AUG/XA/08 MY FO AND I RECEIVED AN ACFT THAT HAD A MAINT ISSUE. AFTER THE ACFT COULDN'T BE FIXED WE WERE GIVEN A NEW ACFT ABOUT 5 MINS BEFORE OUR SCHEDULED DEP. WE BOTH IMMEDIATELY GOT IN TO THE COCKPIT AND BEGAN THE SETUP PROCESS; GETTING THE CLRNC; ETC. THE GATE AGENT QUICKLY BOARDED THE ACFT AND GAVE US THE PAPERWORK. THE FO THEN COMPLETED THE WT AND BAL AND THE PAPERWORK WAS THEN HANDED TO THE GATE AGENT AND THE MAIN CABIN DOOR WAS CLOSED. WE THEN PROCEEDED WITH THE SETUP CHK AND THEN REALIZED AFTER RUNNING THE CHKLIST THAT THE WALKAROUND WAS NOT COMPLETED AND THE GEAR PINS WERE STILL INSTALLED IN THE ACFT; IT WAS THE FIRST FLT OF THE DAY FOR THAT ACFT. WE CALLED FOR THE GATE AGENT TO COME BACK AND PULL THE JETBRIDGE TO THE ACFT SO THE WALKAROUND COULD BE COMPLETED AND GEAR PINS REMOVED. MAKE SURE THE SETUP CHK IS ACCOMPLISHED PRIOR TO CLOSING THE MAIN CABIN DOOR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 799372: I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT EVERYONE RELAX AND TAKE YOUR TIME IN SETTING UP THE ACFT AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU COMPLETE ALL PREFLT DUTIES. THE NECESSITY FOR CHKLISTS PROVED ITSELF IN THIS SITUATION; AND RESULTED IN US NOT TAKING OFF WITH THE PINS INSTALLED.
