Narrative:

On grizz 3 arrival for runway 08 (as identified on ATIS) contacted cyvr approach and he told us to expect the ILS for runway 26R. I was flying and first officer began to change box. This is completely different arrival so LNAV was confused and I began to hand fly to make egret at 10000 ft (as assigned). We made clearance but as we listened to ATC he was still clearing people for the runway 8 approach. We questioned him and he confirmed plan on runway 8L ILS. I was back on autoplt and first officer went back in box to change arrival once again. We got approach reloaded and the controller cleared us to 8000 ft. We read back the clearance and began descent to 8000 ft. Controller came back on and told us to maintain 10000 ft. We were at approximately 9500 ft and I took aircraft off of autoplt and climbed to 10000 ft. The remainder of approach was normal. The controller seemed confused with the wrong runway and how he was handling us. 8000 ft also seemed like the correct altitude for the runway 26 arrivals (at or above 8000 ft at govav) however for runway 8 10000 ft is the correct altitude until (tatgo).

Title: AN ACR ACFT WAS CHANGED FROM CYVR GRIZZ THREE ARR RWY 8 TO RWY 26 THEN BACK TO RWY 8. WHILE VNAV WAS BEING PROGRAMMED AN ALT DEV OCCURRED BECAUSE OF CTLR CONFUSION.

Narrative: ON GRIZZ 3 ARR FOR RWY 08 (AS IDENTIFIED ON ATIS) CONTACTED CYVR APCH AND HE TOLD US TO EXPECT THE ILS FOR RWY 26R. I WAS FLYING AND FO BEGAN TO CHANGE BOX. THIS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ARR SO LNAV WAS CONFUSED AND I BEGAN TO HAND FLY TO MAKE EGRET AT 10000 FT (AS ASSIGNED). WE MADE CLRNC BUT AS WE LISTENED TO ATC HE WAS STILL CLEARING PEOPLE FOR THE RWY 8 APCH. WE QUESTIONED HIM AND HE CONFIRMED PLAN ON RWY 8L ILS. I WAS BACK ON AUTOPLT AND FO WENT BACK IN BOX TO CHANGE ARR ONCE AGAIN. WE GOT APCH RELOADED AND THE CTLR CLEARED US TO 8000 FT. WE READ BACK THE CLRNC AND BEGAN DSCNT TO 8000 FT. CTLR CAME BACK ON AND TOLD US TO MAINTAIN 10000 FT. WE WERE AT APPROX 9500 FT AND I TOOK ACFT OFF OF AUTOPLT AND CLIMBED TO 10000 FT. THE REMAINDER OF APCH WAS NORMAL. THE CTLR SEEMED CONFUSED WITH THE WRONG RWY AND HOW HE WAS HANDLING US. 8000 FT ALSO SEEMED LIKE THE CORRECT ALTITUDE FOR THE RWY 26 ARRIVALS (AT OR ABOVE 8000 FT AT GOVAV) HOWEVER FOR RWY 8 10000 FT IS THE CORRECT ALTITUDE UNTIL (TATGO).
