Narrative:

Received clearance via pre departure clearance. Pre departure clearance listed both filed route and cleared route. Sic copied filed route onto told card. Upon departure control sent us direct to a fix that was not on our 'clearance.' a quick question cleared up the confusion and no harm or foul occurred. Pre departure clearance is an accident waiting to happen. Format is not similar to radio clearance and when a clearance is issued that is different than filed; both are included on the screen. This invites trouble as in this case. We recently made this an item at a safety meeting but still missed it in this particular case. Now; procedurally; both pilots will check pre departure clearance for the correct clearance.
