Narrative:

During climb out of ZZZ1 with the first officer acting as PF; we got yellow system hydraulic failure ECAM immediately after flap retraction. The captain immediately called ECAM then silenced the warning. He looked at the ECAM then declared an emergency with ATC and requested a landing into ZZZZ. The first officer was designated as PF while the captain coordination with approach control; dispatch and the flight attendants. The cabin crew was advised and the passenger were briefed via the PA by the captain. We were told to intercept the runway xxl localizer into ZZZZ by ATC. We joined the localizer while the captain worked the ECAM. Once the ECAM was complete; the captain made the decision to fly the approach and landing. The captain briefed the approach and then the first officer completed the landing distance procedure and overweight landing checklist. We both agreed to fly the approach at a slow speed from 50 NM out on the ZZZZ xxl localizer so we would have time to complete all necessary checklists and briefing. Once all items were completed; we accepted approach clearance for the ILS xxl into ZZZZ. The approach was flown normally with autoplt disconnection at 1000 ft AGL. The landing was made in a minimum rate of descent and the aircraft was put into reverse thrust operative on engine #1 only. We rolled out to the end of the runway xxl with the emergency equipment following us on the parallel taxiway. Once clear of the runway; we were cleared to taxi to gate and the emergency vehicles were released once the aircraft was ascertained to be able to proceed normally with no other abnormal indications. We taxied in to gate and the ramp was advised to chock all wheels. We debriefed maintenance; the flight attendants; and customer service once all passenger had deplaned. We requested to not fly the rest of the day's flts due to adrenaline rush and expected crash once the rush had worn off.
