Narrative:

Departed with a fuel imbal of approximately 3000 pounds. The fuel confign light was on; but we expected the warning light due to the fact that we had greater than 1200 pounds in the center tank; with the center fuel pumps off. At cruise; we saw the imbal; and realized that the light was on due to the previously stated reason; and also due to the imbal of greater than 2000 pounds. Called maintenance and he indicated that no maintenance action was required for the takeoff with the fuel imbal; and that the imbal was resolved following flight manual procedures. Supplemental information from acn 789944: what we did not realize until reaching cruise flight was that due to the APU running all night for maintenance; we had a 3000 pound imbalance between the left and right main tanks. We burned the center tank fuel with the left engine in order to balance the load. This imbalance was masked by the fact that the fuel confign light serves two purposes.

Title: B767 FLT CREW DEPARTS WITH FUEL IN CENTER TANK AND PUMPS OFF AS PLANNED AND ASSUMES CONFIGN LIGHT IS FOR THIS CONDITION. WINGS ARE 3000 POUNDS OUT OF BALANCE.

Narrative: DEPARTED WITH A FUEL IMBAL OF APPROX 3000 LBS. THE FUEL CONFIGN LIGHT WAS ON; BUT WE EXPECTED THE WARNING LIGHT DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE HAD GREATER THAN 1200 LBS IN THE CTR TANK; WITH THE CTR FUEL PUMPS OFF. AT CRUISE; WE SAW THE IMBAL; AND REALIZED THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON DUE TO THE PREVIOUSLY STATED REASON; AND ALSO DUE TO THE IMBAL OF GREATER THAN 2000 LBS. CALLED MAINT AND HE INDICATED THAT NO MAINT ACTION WAS REQUIRED FOR THE TKOF WITH THE FUEL IMBAL; AND THAT THE IMBAL WAS RESOLVED FOLLOWING FLT MANUAL PROCS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 789944: WHAT WE DID NOT REALIZE UNTIL REACHING CRUISE FLT WAS THAT DUE TO THE APU RUNNING ALL NIGHT FOR MAINT; WE HAD A 3000 LB IMBALANCE BETWEEN THE L AND R MAIN TANKS. WE BURNED THE CENTER TANK FUEL WITH THE L ENG IN ORDER TO BALANCE THE LOAD. THIS IMBALANCE WAS MASKED BY THE FACT THAT THE FUEL CONFIGN LIGHT SERVES TWO PURPOSES.
