Narrative:

Flight was en route from ZZZ to ZZZ1. Somewhere near ZZZ2 an ozone like odor was detected on the flight deck and shortly thereafter reported from the cabin. There were no abnormal instrument indications and there was no smoke present. We asked the flight attendants to check around the cabin; and specifically the galleys and in-flight entertainment system; for a source. None was detected; and the odor soon dissipated. We contacted the air carrier maintenance coordinator and our dispatcher on company radio and discussed any possible action should the odor recur; including possible diversion fields. Near the end of this discussion the odor did return; this time with a 'right recirculation fan' EICAS message. The QRH has no specific procedures for this message; only the information that the message indicated the fan was inoperative. We concluded that the right recirculation fan had failed. The odor again dissipated; and we deemed the problem was positively idented and isolated. As precautions against any further recurrence or escalation; we cross referenced the QRH procedure 'smoke or fumes air conditioning' and the pilot handbook concerning checklist philosophy in this type of event. We also called the third crew member (another captain) forward from his break to consult. We concluded it was safe and prudent for the flight to proceed to ZZZ1 and had no further problems en route.

Title: A B767-400 R RECIRCULATION FAN FAILED IN FLT GIVING OFF AN OZONE LIKE SMELL. THE FLT CONTINUED TO ITS DEST.

Narrative: FLT WAS ENRTE FROM ZZZ TO ZZZ1. SOMEWHERE NEAR ZZZ2 AN OZONE LIKE ODOR WAS DETECTED ON THE FLT DECK AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER RPTED FROM THE CABIN. THERE WERE NO ABNORMAL INST INDICATIONS AND THERE WAS NO SMOKE PRESENT. WE ASKED THE FLT ATTENDANTS TO CHK AROUND THE CABIN; AND SPECIFICALLY THE GALLEYS AND INFLT ENTERTAINMENT SYS; FOR A SOURCE. NONE WAS DETECTED; AND THE ODOR SOON DISSIPATED. WE CONTACTED THE ACR MAINT COORDINATOR AND OUR DISPATCHER ON COMPANY RADIO AND DISCUSSED ANY POSSIBLE ACTION SHOULD THE ODOR RECUR; INCLUDING POSSIBLE DIVERSION FIELDS. NEAR THE END OF THIS DISCUSSION THE ODOR DID RETURN; THIS TIME WITH A 'R RECIRCULATION FAN' EICAS MESSAGE. THE QRH HAS NO SPECIFIC PROCS FOR THIS MESSAGE; ONLY THE INFO THAT THE MESSAGE INDICATED THE FAN WAS INOP. WE CONCLUDED THAT THE R RECIRCULATION FAN HAD FAILED. THE ODOR AGAIN DISSIPATED; AND WE DEEMED THE PROB WAS POSITIVELY IDENTED AND ISOLATED. AS PRECAUTIONS AGAINST ANY FURTHER RECURRENCE OR ESCALATION; WE CROSS REFERENCED THE QRH PROC 'SMOKE OR FUMES AIR CONDITIONING' AND THE PLT HANDBOOK CONCERNING CHKLIST PHILOSOPHY IN THIS TYPE OF EVENT. WE ALSO CALLED THE THIRD CREW MEMBER (ANOTHER CAPT) FORWARD FROM HIS BREAK TO CONSULT. WE CONCLUDED IT WAS SAFE AND PRUDENT FOR THE FLT TO PROCEED TO ZZZ1 AND HAD NO FURTHER PROBS ENRTE.
