Narrative:
As the marshaller walked backwards so we could see the marshalling instructions; a tug came from the south; cut through by the baggage well and came within less than inches of hitting our marshaller. The mechanic standing when I asked if he saw that he replied; 'yep; it happens everyday and someone is going to get killed.' I said; 'that close that it clips the clothing?' he said 'yes.' the person driving the tug was a female. It was so close I slammed the brakes on hoping that the tug driver would not go backwards any further. This was something that had I seen it happen would have affected me for life. I have seen accidents; but not one that would have happened at work. This was avoidable and our ramp is a disaster. No matter what you read or are told; a marshaller was almost run over by a tug traveling at a high speed near baggage well.
