Narrative:

Filed VFR flight plan night before flight with FSS. No advisory of parachute jumping in vicinity of departure airport. Apparently 1 hour before flight received standard briefing from flight service. No NOTAMS or tfr's that would affect flight. After takeoff; opened flight plan with FSS. Again; no advisories regarding parachute jumping. Approximately 10-15 mins later noticed parachute jumpers directly in front from almost ground level to several thousand ft above my altitude. Probably did not see earlier because jumpers were wearing what appeared to be gray jumpsuits and had grey parachutes. Made immediate r-hand evasive turn and passed to the left of and well clear of jumpers. Corrective actions would have been to ask for flight following from center. However; if flight service was not aware of this activity I wonder if center would have been advised.

Title: C182 PILOT MAKES EVASIVE TURN AT 6500 FT WHEN MANY PARACHUTISTS APPEAR IN THE SKY IN FRONT OF HIS VFR FLIGHT.

Narrative: FILED VFR FLT PLAN NIGHT BEFORE FLT WITH FSS. NO ADVISORY OF PARACHUTE JUMPING IN VICINITY OF DEP ARPT. APPARENTLY 1 HR BEFORE FLT RECEIVED STANDARD BRIEFING FROM FLT SVC. NO NOTAMS OR TFR'S THAT WOULD AFFECT FLT. AFTER TKOF; OPENED FLT PLAN WITH FSS. AGAIN; NO ADVISORIES REGARDING PARACHUTE JUMPING. APPROX 10-15 MINS LATER NOTICED PARACHUTE JUMPERS DIRECTLY IN FRONT FROM ALMOST GND LEVEL TO SEVERAL THOUSAND FT ABOVE MY ALT. PROBABLY DID NOT SEE EARLIER BECAUSE JUMPERS WERE WEARING WHAT APPEARED TO BE GRAY JUMPSUITS AND HAD GREY PARACHUTES. MADE IMMEDIATE R-HAND EVASIVE TURN AND PASSED TO THE L OF AND WELL CLR OF JUMPERS. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS WOULD HAVE BEEN TO ASK FOR FLT FOLLOWING FROM CTR. HOWEVER; IF FLT SVC WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS ACTIVITY I WONDER IF CTR WOULD HAVE BEEN ADVISED.
