Narrative:

Climbing to 7000 ft; door opened in-flight. While IMC; requested and received vectors back to departure airport. Was told to maintain 2000 ft. I let altitude drop to 1600 ft. Conditions were very turbulent and noisy. Distraction and busted altitude. Event of door opening was caused by seatbelt caught in door. Papers flying about; noise and turbulence caused distraction (could hardly hear controller). After being advised by controller of altitude excursion; corrected and continued for GPS approach. Landing uneventful.
