Narrative:
Upon receiving pushback clearance; tug began push; then stopped abruptly resulting in a loud pop. Tug driver said he had to stop quickly due to a speeding automatic driving behind the aircraft. Tow bar; shear pin broke. Maintenance said nose gear was ok. Not pleased with the quality/detail of maintenance check. I called maintenance to verify the inspection of the nose gear. Maintenance cleared the aircraft; continued to destination.
