Narrative:

On climb out from ZZZ; we received a thrust reverser unlock EICAS message. We followed the QRH and declared an emergency. After we were on approach; we realized that the thrust reverser was already deferred. Having already declared an emergency; we didn't think it was prudent to 'un-declare' an emergency; so we continued and landed back at ZZZ. We discussed the MEL in the release brief; but neither one of us had gotten an EICAS message with a deferred thrust reverser before. Maintenance came out and said everything was normal so fueled up and completed the flight without incident.
