Narrative:

Just before passing the bld VOR; I made a left turn to show our passenger the hoover dam. I noticed the x-track error was at 2 NM and I turned back to intercept our outbound course. We were inbound to the bld VOR direct from beryl intersection (197 degree radial) and outbound from the bld VOR on J60 to pdz (213 degree radial). After the left turn and correction back on course; ATC asked us for the reason we turned. I told them; and they informed us there was an aircraft behind us at FL360. The next controller asked us to call ZLA after landing. After reaching destination center told us that there was no problem and in the future to request the turn.
