Narrative:
After departure; while climbing through 1000 ft MSL; PF (myself) selected autoplt on while PNF tended to a radio call. Autoplt failed to arm. I noticed this and took evasive action to recover. There were no aircraft on TCAS and ATC made no communication follow-up. In the future I will be more vigilant.

Title: A CRJ200 CLBED ABOVE CHARTED ALT DEPARTING TEB WHEN THE AUTOPLT FAILED TO ARM.
Narrative: AFTER DEP; WHILE CLBING THROUGH 1000 FT MSL; PF (MYSELF) SELECTED AUTOPLT ON WHILE PNF TENDED TO A RADIO CALL. AUTOPLT FAILED TO ARM. I NOTICED THIS AND TOOK EVASIVE ACTION TO RECOVER. THERE WERE NO ACFT ON TCAS AND ATC MADE NO COM FOLLOW-UP. IN THE FUTURE I WILL BE MORE VIGILANT.
